Why should we pay for free parking when many of us don't even use it? I certainly will not shop downtown as in my past experiences these greedy merchants won't even meet or match competitor's prices so I shop else where. Let them pay for free parking!

A 1% increase in our taxes you say? Just to park downtown where I DO NOT shop anyway? L.O.L!What IS 1%? If you own a one or two bedroom older" Rideout-ish" home, 1% may mean $30.00 (hypothetic )more in your taxes cause your home isn't worth that much. But the guy who lives in a newer, modern four or five bedroom, attatched garage "Southpark-ish" home, may end up paying $300 (hypothetic) in taxes simply because his home is worth that much more! One percent in your taxes? That amounts to one "P"-pot of change considering how many upscale newer homes there are in Kenora! Wonder who the pencil-neck was who thought he could pull this one over our eyes. Shame on the downtown merchants for even considering this! When will they realize that the majority of residents DON'T want to patronize their stores. It's a new century! Get with the times! Our malls offer us ALL of Main St, and MORE. You'd better start swimmin' or you'll sink like a stone, for the times, they are a-changin'.

One per cent of $2,600 is $26 per year!!! That's 52 hours of parking which equals $1 per week.
Taxed out already  ( March 5, 2007)
I don't park downtown, so it would likely be the employees/employers of downtown businesses that would benefit. They would get less parking tickets and wouldn't have to run out to plug the meters every two hours! If I am going to pay more taxes for parking, then I want a parking spot with my name on it to garuantee my spot everytime I decide to park there!

I am dead against raising my taxes so all the tourists can come in and park for free. I don't park that much downtown anyway, I'll put up with the crap that goes with it. Rich just keep getting richer and the poor just keep getting poorer. Why doesn't the city care about the people living here year round??? Trust me, this isn't for us, it's for the tourists

NO MORE INCREASE IN TAXES! How about a decrease in staffing up there on the front end??? It is the only employer left in Kenora!

The merchants would benefit but the rest of the citizens that don't drive wouldn't. The actual cost to park per person per year may be less and we should encourage less vehicle traffic in the downtown due to congestion.

We are NOT paying any increase to our property taxes. Last years increase was enough!~

I am new to the downtown businesses and many owners/merchants would like to see free parking. However I do not agree it should go to all the taxpayers. Besides, what is going to keep all the folks that work downtown from parking there? Solutions are needed soon. By summer we plan to give customers that use our services a coupon that covers the cost of parking. Next time they come in, their parking is paid for.
