The police costing process smelled bad right from the beginning. A dog pound in a residential area? Fire the town planner and give his wages to the would be strikers. Closing the Keewatin Library - appalling - ignoring taxpayer's input shows Council's ignorance and arrogance. Small minded and not capable of critical thought.

Gold stars for Wendy & Dave for recognizing the STR (the most hated Club in Kenora) & the few businesses that support them, for the bullies & special interest group they are. The blame for ruining snowmobiling lies directly with them. When they start respecting taxpayers, maybe we'll start respecting them. It is typical that when they can't get there own way they don't want to play. Good Riddance!

Toying with police services to 'save' money and spending multi-millions on revitalization/round-about that we DON"T NEED; withholding funding from the Keewatin Library/Seniors Center and Handi-Transit but choosing the highest bid for a police consultant (of which there was $60,000 difference between the high and low); plans to move the cenotaph... these are not 'tough' decisions! These are crafty and calculated choices! It seems our council and CAO lend ears to the voice of the elite and hear not,the screams of the lowly. I've heard talks of impeaching them. I'd be the first to sign my name to cast out (what I believe to be) a very corrupt body. No matter how far down the wrong road one might be... turn back!

I completely support the city employees if they choose to go on strike!! Hats off to you
and thank you for your under-appreciated dedication to the community!!

You have to give credit to all the people on Council for putting so much effort into our town. We may not like all the decisions that are made-especially in these challenging economic times with the main regional employers (forestry) and families struggling. It's a tough job, we should all be looking after our health better for starters. We really need to attract business and industry (mining) to our area. Don't sit in isolation, we have to be outward looking. Thanks to all the volunteers and sponsors in the community too for working hard to put on special events like hockey, triathlons, cross-country skiing, fish tournaments, soccer tournaments. These events help bring in people town that help keep our town going. Work hard, provide for your family, be honest, volunteer for something, pay taxes, continue to be generous, be Canadian.
What Tourism  ( November 13, 2007)
I recently read an article in the Enterprise about promoting Kenora for the Winter months. What about Council's decision to abolish organized snowmobiling in town? This flies in the exact opposite direction of bringing people to town and read's STAY AWAY. Yes, snowmobiling may have its issues - but should our guest's safety not be a concern for council, let alone the liability that council has now created for all us tax payers.

Lost revenues? Let's review shall we? The Boat Launch at the Kenora Recreation Centre is free. I can't think of anywhere were boat launching is free. Thousands of dollars are being missed here. If you issued permanent passes for permanent residents of the City of Kenora at the cost of producing the passes and give year round residents a break, and charge $10 for everybody else to launch their boat and pay for parking the city would generate thousands of dollars a week in the summer months. Put up a shack with a light and cash register, a debit machine and man it with a student. Voila! Revenue, just like that. Short sighted? Seems that way.

If they are short money why are they spending on new things (traffic circles etc.) causing an even bigger shortage on existing things. Get your priorates right - save the library, transit system. Do you think Keewatin would have joined Kenora if they knew what their services would be cancelled. P.S. What good is a traffic circle when the roads will be covered in snow and no employees to plow them and no garbage pick up because the city won't pay their workers what they are worth causing a strike. Might as well kiss your tourists goodbye.

This Council says they want public input and then, when they get it, they totally ignore it if it is different than what they want to do. One councillor at the first public police costing meeting said he was surprised that more people didn't turn out for that meeting. He must have forgotten how many people attended and spoke up at the April budget meeting in support of handi-transit, the museum, and the Keewatin library/Senior's centre only to be totally ignored. Why would people bother to show up and give their input when nobody is listening? I am afraid that by the time this council's term is up, this City will be completely bankrupt from spending all our tax dollars on high-priced consultants, private downtown businesses, and economic development personnel that appear to be focussed on tourism, which means a whole bunch of minimum wage jobs and nothing that will result in employment that can support a family. How many people need to move away before council wakes up? Be afraid Kenora, be very afraid!

Wish there was a rating lower than poor. This Council has hidden agendas as well as misguided agendas. They're deceiving the public, especially over policing and certainly don't make decisions for the common good of the community. Everything is designed to benefit the haves while taking from the working poor, seniors, the disadvantaged.

I don't think they have accomplished very much but in their defense they are fighting an uphill battle. Poor economics hasn't really helped.
