What can I say? The mill coming down turn a round we do not need. KMTS gone what will it be next?

I agree with Ben and Bill. If I remember right they tried to sell KMTS over a year ago and then decided not to. Now out of the blue they announce its sold. Who decided that Bell should be the only bidder? Who asked me, the owner of this asset if I wanted to sell it to Bell? I encourage all to attend the public meeting and ask why this wasn't an open and transparent bid process. I know I'll be there!

I find it very suspicious that the council will not let anyone else bid on this sale. How do we know we are getting the best deal possible.
Isn't this the council who is always concerned about bids, cost over runs etc.
Something stinks in Kenora and for a change it isnt the Clarifier!

KMTS was not MTS owned. KMTS mobility is on the MTS wireless network but that is it.
I should move back to town and run for council! :)

I quess this is one way of making the old Jaffray Melick and Kenora even. Sell off KMTS and then everyone will be paying more for Telephone service. All that is left is Hydro. Maybe Ontario Hydro will be interested, then finally the cost of Hydro will be even. I guess thats one way, Maybe this Council should give their heads a shake. Big companies do not care about employees in Kenora , they just want to get rid of as many as possible.

I don't understand why they won't let anyone but Bell bid on it. I thought we owned it and therefore it should be sold to the highest bidder. TBayTel wants to bid but their being told they can't? Doesn't make any sense to me. Whose getting rich through the back door I wonder???

The newspapers make reference to the entry into our local market of Shaw. If the KMTS buyer follows suit, we are in for poor service and higher cost.
With NORCOM you could get same day or next day service. Now you call a call center with a problem and may see a tech in 2 weeks! Along with the poor tech service is the poor picture and audio quality. Throw in the 20 % rate hike and people you see what you will be in for.
These companies are profit driven , not customer driven. KMTS has been a good, customer driven company. Locals were loyal to KMTS as it was a local firm and put millions into our local coffers. Now, why should we rent phones and services from the new guy?

Thank-you Council! ~ For having the business sense to see that the large corporations were going to be able to provide upgraded services for lower costs. This enables me to not have to change over my business to stay up to date and now, I get to continue to help provide employment to our many friends and local people who will keep their jobs. Good move, nice profit and excellent timing!

This council is TOTALLY out of control! To sell a source of revenue seems ridiculous. Then they have the nerve to say that the they have arranged that the company purchasing it will keep the current staff! Who is kidding who? Businesses are here to make money and care not for workers' jobs other than how little they can pay them for their work and if they don't like it then they can and will be pressured into quitting. Then if that doesn't work, the company says they will promote them which is always to an out of town transfer. After all of that they then create new service packages for the services they now own and offer, which then enables them to charge what ever they like to us the consumer!Sound like a familiar company tactic? Oh well does council hear the taxpayer/comsumer? My guess is they hear this about as well as they hear the opposition to the future roundabout we will be getting and while they are at it they might as well see if they can get a two for one deal on this roundabout and put the other one at the east end of second street as those traffic lights have been out of order and must also be getting too old to repair!!!!!!!

KMTS was one of the only ways the city was able to make any money. As I said in the past, politics is tough so I won't comment on how good or bad the decision is... would I have sold it? Not a chance... perhaps we can use this money to pay for the "Richards Roundabout" (as it should be named!)?
