Not now, not ever !!!!  ( September 27, 2007)
Money should never be removed from the public school system to pay for this.
Kenora mom  ( September 26, 2007)
It really is a matter of choice. I think the uproar here is because the Catholic school system in Kenora has a much better standing provincially then the public school system. Their scores are better, the students are more likely to enter into a university education and they are getting a better education. So the question becomes: is the school truly giving the kids a better education, or are the students attending Catholic schools coming from families that are open minded to religion in school and/or better education? This isn't a public Vs. private debate in Kenora. This is a matter of the public schools not looking at every child as a special child and giving them the education that EVERY child deserves. A clear example of this is the EQAO scoring that both school boards participated in. The public board's reaction to low scoring? We live in a different part of Ontario, so its not relevant to us. The Catholic board admitted their scores dropped slightly this year, and while they are still near the top of the province, they want to do better. For our kids. Losing the Catholic school board would take away a beautiful education option open right now to the parents of Kenora. And yes scoring does matter. Don't marks matter to get into universities, MCATs and LSATs required to get into law school? Any superintendent who states openly that the EQAO scoring doesn't matter really needs a wake up call. I support the Catholic school board and invite other parents to get the facts. A 'D' on a report card is not a good mark. And rating some of the lowest schools by the public board in the EQAO testing isn't a good mark either.

While some may cry foul over "Our hard earned tax dollars" being spent on separate schools, it is somehow OK for those who desire faith based education to have to pay into the public system? If the kids are getting their ABC's etc., and learning how faith plays a part in their lives and millions of other Canadians, and most importantly are not being taught that Catholicism is not the only religion in the world, and to respect others...What is the problem?

One for all and all for one that would be the easy way (in religion there is one boss and a lot of managers).

The problem with faith based education, is that it creates misunderstanding and animosity btween religious groups. We need to drop all the faith based stuff, get everyone on the same track and create a blend of all groups.
If a family or individual feels strongly enough about their religion, they can persue that interest through their church.
Captain Northern Ontario  ( September 22, 2007)
No way should there be faith based education. Children should learn about religions, but no religious teachings in school. Where do you stop-there is no end to it. John Tory has blind-sided the public by making this an issue in the upcoming Provincial election. Northern Ontarians need their issues addressed-improved economic conditions and employment. This plays for southern Ontario. We need a new Northern Ontario regional government. Southern Ontario is a differnt world to us. Who do we vote for that can do something real for us ? there is no party.

Let's see if i have this right. One of the provincial conservatives platforms this coming election is to support the development of religious based schools with our hard earned tax dollars. I'll assume that it is the Islamic sect that is making the biggest push for this with our politicians. Is this not the religion that some of its followers resort to violence and murder over in the name of their prophet? This country's going down the tubes. Everybody has too many so called rights, and what's sad about this is that the ones who appear to have the most rights and are quick to bring them to the forefront are the "transplanted" Canadians, those who were not born nor have deep roots within our country. Should we accommodate? Sure, within reason, but if you choose to live in Canada you should not expect to live or demand to live as you did back home. When is the insanity going to stop? Goodbye conservatives.... hello green party.

I believe faith-based education systems are a good thing. I consider it a great privilege to have been able to learn in a separate Christian school, where the parents and teachers completely supported and ran the school. The cost was a huge sacrifice for my parents but they believed in it. I don't believe it is right that our government only allots money to the Catholic system and public system only. I am still appalled after all these years, as to why that ever got passed. Talk about bias. That just doesn't add up or make sense. It should be all or nothing.

When discussing the separation of church and state, it quickly becomes apparent that there is a lot of misinformation, misunderstandings, and myths floating around which distort people's perception of critical issues. It simply isn't possible to come to a reasonable understanding about the nature of how religion and government should interact when people do not have all of the facts - or, even worse, when what they think are facts turn out to simply be errors.
GOD IS NOT A CHRISTIAN!!!

Having been schooled in Ontario and Manitoba, where the "Manitoba School Question," is still an open subject and a debatable subject since Manitoba became a province.....Well???

Hello, Hello, Hello, Christians, Jews,Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus its time to get together and work it out.............

I totally agree with faith based school systems. What kind of a world have we become when you can't even wish someone "Merry Christmas" in a public school. Maybe if some of these children had the Lord in their lives we would have a society of better behaved and mannered children who have respect for people other than themselves
