It's a shame, of some people's attitude here (on this comment board).

We need to do more to welcome both tourist and seasonal residents. And appreciate the significant economic impact. We need to be promoted as open for business. Our businesses and tourism center needs to be open weekends and past 6pm at night. Especially downtown. With really people working. Not Apps and kiosks.
Real people, real jobs, real connections, real impact, real results.

Let's see: free boat launching, free overnight parking, don't pay for their garbage at transfer station, watched three cottages get constructed this year not one lumber truck had a Kenora address and (the mill jobs have been gone for 11 years now) welcome to Kenora let's jack up the taxes and put on our rose-coloured glasses. Go to West Hawk and see if you can launch your boat for free.

Osterichs with your heads in the sand. Significant number of Manitoba plates, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Texas, Florida in the parking lots of Safeway, Home Hardware, Canadian Tire, McMunn and Yates, Keewatin Place from May long until October. Buying locally, probably more than most of you can say for yourselves. Supporting our economy and jobs here. Might not be mill jobs, but it is not the summer resident/tourists fault.

I think anyone that is involved and participates with the econmy realizes visitors are good and at the minimum help the town and area present itself with its best face forward. Kenora folks are incredibly generous and tolerant.

The city doesn't even make its own taxpayers(cash cows) welcome. They spend a lot of time, therefore money on the downtown area while the rest of the city has to wait.
Nothing is more dismal than to be around the "mall." With Zellers being torn down and all the drunks, it isn't a pretty picture.
There is also a difference between summer residents and tourists. The tourists come for a short term, see the sights, buy a meal and some trinkets and leave. The summer residents come for 3 months, loaded with everything including the kitchen sink and complain about parking, taxes, poor service, etc.

Tourists get treated better than us year-round residents.

A lot of us out there do not care for the summer residents coming here as they think we owe them something. The actual tourists have no idea what is here. The old tourist bureau by the jail was a lot of help. People coming in from the east have to go all the way to the Discovery Centre to find out what is here, then have to trek all the way back.
