My personal donations have shrunk a lot. Too many other things like sewer, water, hydro and food apparently need my money more.
I am a member of several service clubs that do fund raise and do contribute locally.
One in particular, the Royal Canadian Legion, is in dire need of support itself. Legions raise a lot of money through the annual Poppy Campaign, lotteries and bingos. These funds are donated to many agencies within town.
However, very little of the funds raised can be used by the branches for keeping their doors open. With veterans passing away, a shrinking membership, fewer bar patrons and rules that prevent them from accessing their lottery funds, sadly the days of these noble institutions are numbered.
When the branches close, along with them go the charitable donations. |

I used to be able to donate a lot more than I do now but with hydro and water and food increases as much as they have it is getting harder to find spare money to donate. |

Without trying to sound selfish or self centered, I agree it is time for the government to help us first and cut some foreign aid. I am not without compassion but with tougher times and shrinking incomes let's take care of ourselves. |

I give to organizations that produce local results. It seems every day there is someone looking for a hand out or a larger contribution.
With my income stagnant and everything around me getting more expensive, I have really cut back. |

I find people give the best they can but in this community it seems every Tom, Dick and Harry are looking for a donation. Cuts from all over have made this happen. I find a lot of people rely on others for help but do not help themselves. Time for the government etc. to stop sending money to other countries when our people are starving. |
