When Lucia Melnick started the concert series many years ago she struggled with having to pay for the venue. Many requests to the city went unfunded and as a result paid many times out of her own pocket. She did more to promote Kenora than anyone else at the time. The concert series is not only for the tourists but for the locals. Not everyone can afford to pay over $20 for a ticket to an event. The concert group should not have to pay for the pavilion when they only ask for pocket change. No one should be told to leave before their concert has concluded. What are they thinking??

The City has to evaluate it at some point to see how it many pay off in other areas for the City - I see the local bussnesses gaining the most, obviously. Will it encourage more business to start up and generate more taxes? It encourages the arts community to grow also. However, this encourages Left-wing ding bats, that we don't need more of.

Where is the town supposed to draw the line? There is a plethora of non-profit groups and charitable organizations that make use of town facilities, so at which point do they, or don't they, have to pay for these? You can't do it for some and not others arbitrarily.

I think the town could and should let the concert series have the use of the tent for nothing. It can't be like the arena for upkeep costs and costs the same if it's sitting empty. The letter in the Enterprise this week is shocking that a concert had to be hurried along or face paying overtime.

To be a real tourist destination, we need to have a variety of events at the Harbourfront. The concert series is a wonderful venue for people of all ages. This is definitely something that should be supported. Thank you to Lucia for all the years of organizing this event.
