Kenora is all about image and economy, real issues are masked or swept under the carpet. when s**t hits the fan people run around like chickens with their heads chopped off. Low income housing, the library, handitransit, youth drop in center and many others are the real issues. Another example of masking the real Kenora, when the former prime minister came to Kenora a few years back the police swept and combed the streets lodging the street people away from political sight. This would have been a great example for the ex prime minister to see the struggles people of Kenora face. In closing real issues such as who will police our streets take a toll on the tax payers, why not group all three police forces together since all are always visible within Kenora.

If I knew then what I know now I would not have voted for the councillors I did. I did not vote for our new mayor and am glad I didn't. They are spending money we don't have and there are too many overpaid management positions at City Hall, which they promised they would look into, but have not. We do not need: an Economic Development Officer, another paid consultant to review the police when we know we need to have one police force for the area. Stop the nonsense! Hopefully in the next election we will have some people run for council that actually care about Kenora and its future.

They aren't even trying to keep it simple. Improvement committees, harborfront committees, business improvement, etc. etc. etc. = waste of money. It's obvious to a five-year-old what the problems are in the town:
1 - Clean up the street lurkers. No don't ship them off to Dryden. But refocus the "business improvement/Kenora rebranding" into that area
2 - Tear down the mill already and build afforable housing in partnership with Ontario Works or another service organization. Have it locally managed. It's central, an eyesore, and right beside a school. That would solve the apartment problem, the eyesore, the bad reminders that the mill is gone and really give the town a boost
3 - Stop whining about the tourists. And stop giving them things for free!

Look at the stupid things they are doing, like spending $95,000 on yet another policing survey while the library, museum, and handi transit go begging for funds to exist. And how dumb to move the tourism bureau to the center of the city while every other town is building new ones on their outskirts! Do they not realize that the 300 or so large RV's that have stopped so far this year will NEVER be able to access a downtown stop for info? We are going to lose tourists, not gain them. And the roundabout - all we hear is about cities taking them out or putting traffic lights back in their place. Councillors you all get a failing grade. Start listening to the people like you said you would when you ran for office.

I think that they are trying. However, when you consider the number of houses that had sewer back up this year and the fact that there has been minimal news coverage leads many to believe that they are trying to cover up. This flooding occurred in many areas of town and it is very obvious that a colosal pump failure lead to this problem. Is our sewer system adequate? Are city employees maintaining the system properly? What assurances do we have that this won't happen again? It seems redundant and ridiculous to send out a form asking tax payers where the city should spend it's money when it is blatantly obvious that we have a huge problem with our infrastructure. How long is this going to be kept quiet? Many homeowners are unable to get adequate insurance coverage because this has been a long term unaddressed problem. So for now, no, I am terribly unimpressed with all current members of city council. Do something about this problem and I and many others may change our minds.

I wish council would realize there is more to Kenora than the Harbourfront and tourism. Spending a pile of money in the downtown is not going to bail us out of our looming financial crisis. A great number of our citizens are on fixed incomes, many more will be on fixed incomes in a decade. Where is the foresight and planning to ease the ever increasing tax burden on their people. With no major business interested in Kenora, a shrinking economy, our remaining two mills in crisis, no good jobs for our grads, we need a better plan than a traffic circle, concert hall and a new condo!

What good have they done for the City of Kenora.

For the most part, the new faces have been a breath of fresh air for this city. However, how can anyone with common sense think downtown revitalization is feasible during our economic crisis? And why is there still one management position for every three to four front line workers on city payroll? We don't need to lose libraries and handi-transit. We need to lose a few top dogs and an economic development officer. Hope council members are listening to the comments of this poll.

Do I think council and mayor are doing a good job? Hmm...lets see now, they're going to rip up our harbourfront for a ridiculous roundabout. After all the time and money spent to make it look the way it is now, which is beautiful, they want to make into a concrete jungle. Go back to two lanes and leave it alone, which it should have been in the first place. This is summer, get used to the back up of traffic. Then they want to take away the Library in Keewatin. I thought this was a city. All other cities have more than one library in other areas. Wpg. has libraries in St. Vital, St. Boniface, Fort Garry and the list goes on. Then there is the boardwalk at Coney, who cares if it is on private property, everyone and their dog uses that boardwalk, just fix it. Let's not forget Handi Transit, why in the world would council take away from the handicapped, it is their only source of getting around. I'm sure there must be some funds available somewhere to keep it running. Maybe they could take that $600,000 for that so called roundabout and put that money towards the library, boardwalk, handi-transit and line painting on Main Street, then use the rest to fix up some of our roads that locals need to travel on everyday, put sidewalks in for our locals to walk on everyday, and forget about paying for their car insurance and any other thing they are trying to weasel out of us. I'm sick of it. I realize that being on council would not be an easy job, but this council has done nothing that they said they were going to do. I was pretty excited to get a new Mayor and Council and thought to myself that it's about time we get someone in office that will look after the locals, but you fooled us once again. Do I think that Mayor and council are doing a good job? NOT! It's quite obvious that I'm not the only one that thinks this.

They seem to have this vision that tourism is the answer however I can't understand how this will be the answer as they give the tourists a considerable amount for free. The actual fact of it is that it is on the backs of us the tax payers. They also have decided to listen to some engineering/designing firm tell them to put in a roundabout instead of traffic lights which almost seems to be the designer thing of the year to do! Looks like this too is going through no matter how much we try to fight it. Will they ever begin to listen to those of us who have voted them in?
