We have enough problems with intoxicated people on the streets. Will the Government give more money to pay for more Police and Social Workers to take care of the problems that only will be aggravated by making alcohol even more accessible? I have been in various US states where you can buy your favorite alcoholic beverage at the corner store. It would appear that the crime rate from what our US cousins call Vagrancy to Armed Robbery generally goes up where the stores sell alcohol. The response to this is to add more police, security cameras, stores with barred entrances and armed private security guards. Thanks but no thanks, until we can educate the population to treat alcohol with respect, we cannot afford the consequences. This is not Europe where public intoxication is still viewed as extremely bad social manners. The Europeans do consume a great deal of alcohol, but the laws are harsh and the social structure does not tolerate public intoxication. Most of our controls and laws for alcohol where generated in the late 1800?s due to the fact the people could not control their consumption and it was in becoming a major social issue in most towns in Ontario. Until we can instill into the population moderation of consumption and the resulting effects of abuse that causes a great deal of harm, I would like to see the selling of alcohol beverages remain as it is.

There will be no price savings since the LCBO still controls all sales...also small stores(which there are really none anymore)have no floor space for this stuff and won't make much profit but they will be forced to follow other retailers. Why do we have a problem getting booze from liquor stores which are open 7 days a week?

Beer vendors, yes. Alcohol in the corner store down the street, no way.

Since we are trying to pass our city off as a tourist friendly place, we should make liquor, beer etc. more accessible. Most tourist ares offer this service. What an archaic system we have, when after 6 p.m. on a Saturday you can't buy supplies.

Kenora has too many people that aren't smart enough or mature enough to be able to handle this responsibly.

The people who said no should travel west. You don't know how far behind the times you are until you travel. It wasn't that long ago that we couldn't even shop on Sunday in Ontario. You have to move ahead or get left behind.

I think it would be a terrible idea-when it is 2 o'clock in the morning and the police are busy downtown - who will go to the "corner store" to help out the worker who is dealing with the already intoxicated customer wanting to purchase off hour liquor-let's get real here-may work in some communities-don't think it will work in our community.

No. There are so little jobs as is and taking away from the LCBO and beer store doesn't help. Plus trust me you don't want that element in your corner store especially with more small stores worked by teenagers not fair to them to follow the LCBO laws and ID every kid off the street. Really bad idea.

It's about time Ontario joined the real world when it comes to off sales of beer and liquor. However, buyer beware! In provinces that allow off sales, the price of this "convenience" is a lot more than you would pay in the beer or liquor stores.

NO. Off sales at the bars where staffing is already trained yes, but it is already hard enough to staff local grocers and corner stores now without limiting them to hiring adults only, and those that choose not to sell alcohol jeoperdize their business. The system in place now is working, unless you have a sudden urge to get plastered at 6 a.m., why mess with it.
