Do not blame everything on Truckers, passenger vehicles are just as bad. It seems everyone is in a hurry to get nowhere even if it is unsafe and risks their life and others. I travel the highways frequently and it is passenger vehicles that do stupid things 98% of the time.

Every time I drive the highway I see poor driving by both truckers and passenger cars. I feel it is wrong to target any one group who uses the highway. The bottom line is there are too many accidents and that highway should be divided. We deserve exactly what is given to the majority of the rest of Canada and we are not getting that. Let's all work together to see that happen in our life time. Passenger lives as well as truckers lives need to be protected.

I think it's common knowledge semi drivers have a "black box" controlling when they have to shut down for sleep. Unfortunately, they consistantly try to squeeze every mile out of their time left,a nd wind up behind YOU, travelling 15-20 kms faster and expect YOU to get out of their way so they can make WPG. before they have to log off."Six days on the road and I'm-a gonna make it home toniSCREEEEECH!CRASH!"Human error.Tsk tsk!

I have to wonder if a double lane highway from the Manitoba border to Thunder Bay would result in fewer deaths? Of course, this would cost millions of dollars so it will never happen, but we can always dream. And as long as drivers in all types of vehicles are in a hurry to get from point A to B there will always be fatalities on the roads.

In a blizzard, at night, -35 and the truckers are still on me - one was honking even though I was going 100! Time to police those highways...

The topic has been out in the open for years. But as a truck driver I assure you that there are far more violations and aggressive driving by passenger vehicles. Just spend a day in a truck and count how many times you are cut off, illegally passed, red lights and stop signs are run by cars so they can get in front of you. Don't forget the pen and paper as you will lose count, I assure you.

As a truck driver I will admit that there are some bad, aggressive drivers in trucks, but lets not paint them all with the same brush. the majority of us are out there making a living, not trying to kill ourselves or others. And as another person wrote, there are far more, but less dramatic accidents involving and caused by passenger vehicles than there are truck accidents. If they all made the paper, the Miner News would be far thicker on a daily basis.

I think all the accidents are from poor driving skills. They don't train transport drivers enough on defensive or offensive driving. Its a money issue.

Look at all the urine filled bottles on the side of the road. These guys would risk an accident rather than lose 5 minutes of time to pull over and urinate.

There are a few factors that contribute to the rash of semi accidents: lack of training, failing to realize road conditions and excessive speed. But when was the last time you saw one of these rigs pulled over by the OPP?RCMP? either east or west of town. Is the law of the road being enforced? How mant times have you been passed by these rigs when returning from Winnipeg?
