We have to look beyond the select few that have made it look bad for the whole KPS force. Unfortunately, they should have been let go immediately but there are still commendable individuals working for KPS. If we cut out KPS I think it would be a mistake and cost too much for OPP. I am in favour of both the OPP and KPS.

The KPS have a bad rep especially with the First Nations people what with the blotched investigation with the Kakegamic case and other First Nations people dying in the cells. I would tend to trust the OPP and the Treaty Three police more because of these reasons and also being a First Nations member myself. Perhaps joining the Treaty Three, OPP along with the KPS to police the city of Kenora would make the First Nations people feel more safer.

We better look before we leap. Research is the key here and must be done with due diligence. Going strictly OPP may not save the dollars and cents and may increase wait times for emergencies. My opinion would be to keep both forces and expand KPS to JM and Keewatin. This would mean more staff of course and lobbying for the funding. May not be possible but should be explored.

RCMP would be best...KPS name is too tarnished in Kenora, I question if they can ever be fully trusted again.

Why pay $1 million more for OPP? They are required by law to help KPS out on major cases at no charge.
I don't want Toronto dictating what we do up here. If we ever go to the OPP, they can charge us what they want. If we change to OPP, we can never go back again.

The KPS is cheaper and they do a good job. Look what happened when the OPP took over places like Marathon prices went through the roof!!

The OPP was oringinally formed to police small hamlets and highways. The only additonal training the OPP get in comparison with the KPS is an indoctrination course which is OPP related. The Police Services Act gives the authority for Municipal Forces to ask for OPP assistance when their resources are not available. The KPS has a long and honourable history of policing in Kenora and should continue as our police force.

THE CITY SHOULD CHECK WITH OTHER MUNICIPALITIES THAT HAVE SWITCHED FROM MUNICIPAL TO O.P.P. TO DETERMINE IF THERE ARE ANY COST SAVINGS BEFORE DETERMINING WHICH FORCE SHOULD POLICE THE CITY OF KENORA. I STILL THINK THE K.P.S. CAN PROVIDE POLICING FOR THE ENTIRE CITY CHEAPER THAN THE OPP. WITH HAVING OUR OWN POLICE SERVICE THE CITY CAN MAKE THEIR OWN PRIORITIES REGARDING POLICING. IF OPP POLICES THEN PRIORITIES ARE DETERMINED BY QUEEN'S PARK.

The OPP are a very professional organization, with well defined policies, standards and training across the board with the rest of Ontario. KPS have a bunch of good hard-working people who would be directly hired to the OPP. Therefore, you would have the same guys working for Kenora, they would just be governed by a larger, more professional force. The only difference Kenora would notice would be the higher level of training and standards of which the OPP make mandatory. The north wants all the benefits of the rest of Southern Ontario, why not go with the standards they offer in policing? We need a more professional police agency in Kenora.

I think the fact that Pickle Lake's policing cost has went from $90 per person to over $2300 per person with the O.P.P. and has the town facing bankruptcy shows us we should keep the local force because once you get rid of it you can't just start a new one
