In response to Bill's comment, they are not only union members...they are also members of this community and they are concerned. None of the beds have been closed yet and this past week there were people having to spend the night in the emergency department as there were no beds available. Can you imagine what it will be like when they lose 20 more beds? Hope you never have to travel to another hospital with a family member because there are no beds available.

If they didn't care about the health care they would have choosen a diferent career.

Since the hospital has been at or near capacity since August long weekend, where exactly would these other 22 people go? Imagine it was your child that was ill and needed hospital care. Do you have to drive to Winnipeg or Thunder Bay to be with them? It has been my experience that management always cuts the front line staff and just because nurses are actively trying to save jobs does not mean that its a "union ploy". As members of this community they have every right to stand up and say "This is wrong!!"

It should come as no suprise to anyone that the lines will get longer. We in Northwestern Ontario are the forgotten people of this vast province, other than tax time! Saddle up folks it wont get any better.

If the remaining beds are used properly, there won't be a shortage.
You have to wonder though if the panic created by the unions is a job saving role or do they really care about healthcare!!

Most non emerent operations require no or a minimum amount of actual bed time. Even new mothers are released from hospital in record time.
Perhaps the hospital can maintain and operate the beds more efficiently as has been done at Pinecrest Home after its massive cuts! Where was the public concern then?

I think, if I was ill and had to be in the hospital. I would like to see a nurse rather than an manager who couldn't help me with my medical emergency. Frontline heatlhcare should be the last thing that should be cut. We should take a close look at what these managers are being paid and for what duties they perform for the salary they are being paid. Also, we should see how we can become more responsible will the funding for the hospital. Thank you.
