Half the meetings, same pay. City workers, more work and no raise. Sounds like council to me. Too bad we won't see many of them next term. Let's just hope we survive this term.

I would love to run for council and become a real voice for Kenora. However, I know that I wouldn't stand a chance. Because I'm not one of the so called "power families" in Kenora who is related to three-quarters of the town. So I don't bother, and I spend my free time volunteering for other things I believe in.

I think it makes sense really... why have meetings more often when a majority of the decisions made are put off until more information can be gathered?
Really it makes sense... as for a raise... they deserve it... no matter their decisions Kenora... you voted them in. They go through a lot. Having an Uncle who once served on the Kenora Town Council I have seen it first hand. I applaud them, regardless of the decisions they make.

What a sneaky way to give themselves a raise, and just before Christmas. Half the meetings with the same pay. They must think we're a naive bunch.

It just overwhelms me how many negative people live in our wonderful city and how many negative comments are received to this website anytime city council is the topic. For all you people with "half empty glasses", if your not happy with the workings within council, work to change it, just don't throw stones. Run for council, attend council meetings, become an activist if need be, but most importantly let your thoughts and ideas be heard. We don't need negativity at this time in Kenora as we work through some tough economic times. We have to remain positive and work together if we want Kenora to grow and succeed.

When all you need is a rubber stamp, why bother with meetings. Why should the public have to worry about less meetings? Everything this council passes has already been passed behind closed doors.
Not long now till the next election.

I think that if you have a good management system in place, solid financial and city policies and bylaws, along with, well trained administrators for the city, council doesnt need to meet, except in an emergency. They could be off lobbying the other governments for more funding to ensure the city gets the best services for it's citizens. I think meeting too often is categorized as micromanagement. I wish my First Nation Council at Northwest Angle #33 First Nation considered this same practice instead of practically living in town for band council meetings and receiving $150 per councillor per meeting plus travel @ .45km x 417kms, it would save my First Nation community alot of money....

What difference wil it make? Everything they do is already a "done deal" by the time it gets to a meeting. The openess and transparency of council that a lot of councillors had as an election promise , sure has gone away.

Only if they cut their salaries in half as well. And get some new blood so we can really get some exciting, interesting, and MEANINGFUL projects going.

I agree, this way they will make less bad decisions, dream up less stupid ideas.
