The whole reason for moving the cenotaph is ludicrous. We do not need to be pursuing this whole downtown revitalization idea. Our city is in an economic crisis. Where is the money coming from after grants and funds have been received from other resources? Right. Our pockets. Say no to moving the cenotaph because we do not have the money to change the course of Main Street. Wake up and smell the coffee council and management. P.S. Maybe the cenotaph could be relocated to one of the many vacant rooms up at the town garage.

This is another idea put forth without proper consultation. As a 31 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion Kenora Br.12, I can tell you that due to high city taxes, insurance rates, utility rates and a declining membership, the local branch will probably be closing in a few years and the property offered for sale. The Legion was for sale two years ago and only a financing issue stopped the sale. Moving the cenotaph to the current legion site is a foolish, short term move. The new owners of the legion property would not be obligated to keep the cenotaph at all. Leave history alone, the cenotaph is a public memorial to those who made the supreme sacrifice. "We willl remember them"

Change can be a good thng but there's time when it isn't right. When the cenotaph was built it was meant to remain at that site forever as a memorial to those who lost their lives ensuring that we can have the freedom to disagree with one another. To me the reasons behind changing the location aren't good enough because the project leading to this hasn't been thought through thoroughly and the move would be made for no good purpose.

NO! They should not move the Cenotaph. Show some respect for the men and women who gave their lives for us. This idea is just as stupid as putting up a condo at the end of Water street. I don't care if it will be a highend building. Just what we need, another apartment building for people who have money, forget about the people who don't. I enjoy the waterfront, don't block my view and leave the monument where it is. Get a grip.

I see many are opposed to moving the cenotaph, but realistically how many even get to see it now? If we put up something to honour those that gave their lives perhaps it should be located where all who live here would see it at least a few times a week. I have the utmost respect for our veterans. Moving the cenotaph is not the same as moving a gravesite. I also bet there are hundreds who live here who didn't even know where the cenotaph was until this issue came up. The naysayers are often just that. They oppose everything and take offence to everything.

I think council should re-examine the reasons for their intent. This decision is both needless and dishonorable to the soldiers who offered their lives in exchange for a small piece of ribbon. Valuing a road above our heroes makes honour sink. I am ashamed the testament to their sacrifice seems to have been reduced to nothing more than an inconvenience. When did we start confusing freedom with immorality? Our duty should be taller than the sharp pencil of an architect... and ever unerasable!

May I politely point out by cutting my last remark in half (zero budget) you completely changed the context and it made absolutely no sense in Saturday's paper?

With the future of Branch 12 being very bleak, it is better left where it is. At least then there will be some recognition for our veterans left. The residents of the new condo would probably enjoy the walk by it on their way to shop uptown.

There is a very good chance the Legion as we know it, will cease to exist in a few years. After that, who knows what will happen to the current legion property. The current cenotaph is better where it is, near the museum.

Leave the cenotaph alone and show some respect for the people that paid the ultimate sacrifice. This has been a fixture of respect in its present location for years. Go and play with something else like the fountain in front of Husky the Muskie. Just another hair brained idea from the people who think they run this town.
