I think kenora should have a dog park for allowing dogs to excercise Dogs need to run occasionally. Being from out of town I need a place to run my dog after a long car ride and a handy waste disposal site would add to the convenience.

Within the Municipality of the City of Kenora, the only time a dog should not have to be leashed and can run at large is when it is on the owner's property and under control whether by leash or voice command. Leashing a dog when out in public is the only way to ensure the safety not only other people and pets but your dog too. These are also the regulations under the City of Kenora Bylaw 20-2001 as well as not allowing the dog, even when under control, to trespass on a public beach, park, playground or cemetery and that the dog's excrement must be promptly removed and disposed of when left on any property other than the owner's. Other urban communities have designated dog parks or free running zones where owners can allow their dogs to be in a leash-free, safe environment and not be in contravention of municipal bylaws. There are currently no such designated areas within our municipality which, by-the-way folks, includes Coney Island. As a property owner on "The Island", it is frustrating when the bridge goes in and dog owners come across to use the area to exercise their pet but allow them to roam out of their sight, poop on the pathways and the beach area and chase the wildlife. Dog owners on the island abide by the bylaw; you should too!! It would be great to see a designated dog park in the city that could be funded either through the dog licences/tags or a user pay system.

Not only dog owners, but cat owners have to be the worst. They just let them run all over.

If you own it, look after it.

There are a few areas within the city that I beleive it is safe to let your dog run. But for public areas such as the green belt, or just walking on the sidewalk, or the running track at the rec centre, I think it is wise to have your dog leashed. I beleive the issue is really one of control. About 98% of the time my dog would come when I called it even if it was chasing a squirrel or going to greet another dog. On one occasion however, she chose not to heed my calls and although no damage resulted, there were a few tense words as our dogs scrapped a little. I was at fault as the other dog was leashed. After that I only let my dogs run loose in very specific areas.

I think a fenced in yard is fine for a dog to not be on a leash. Anything else-a leash for sure!

It is unbelievable how ignorant some people are, letting their dogs loose in the morning so they can do their business in other peoples yards. Same with cats. Why should I have to buy a cover for my kids sandbox in my yard to prevent someone elses cats from going it it?

When people are lucky enough to have a dog they should show some respect for the neighbourhood they live in and leash their dog. It will help protect their dog from getting into trouble with other dogs, pooping in some else's lawn and could save their dog's life by not being run over by a car. I have seen this happen and it is very sad. People who do not care about their well being should not be allowed to have a dog.

Dogs should be under control in the city at all times and their droppings cleaned. Always concerns about dogs, dogs, dogs! What about cats? 34% of all songbirds killed in kenora are from the domestic housecat. How many flower beds ruined with urine? City bylaws state that cats will be leashed and controlled just like dogs. Read the by-laws. It will make for some interesting reading.

No not all the time. However the owner of the unleashed dog had better be prepared for the consequences should their animal attack another, or even worse a child.
When it comes to unleashed dogs going after my dogs, I take the attack as an attack on my person and defend myself and my pets accordingly.
