It is a small minority of the local youth who are creating the problems in Kenora. They commit a crime, get their "slap on the wrist" from the justice system and are back wreaking havoc in a day or two.
We have a lot of good kids in Kenora who go to school, church etc, play sports, spend valuable time a home with their families.
Let's not label all our youth bad, lets just eradicate the problem ones.

A crefew by 9:00pm, what are you thinking are you even. This idea is laughable. First of the police does not have the time or man power to handle that. Second what you are suggesting is to keep teens locked inside. What about sport teams, walking to the movies, walking a dog, going to a friends house. this is highly unrealistic. There is some youth crime in Kenora but it is not caused by everyone. If you took the time, you would see that most act of youth volience here are caused by the same youth offenders. There is not a serious youth crime problem here.

Maybe "things to do for youth" should include a very visible work camp for those kids who do break the law.
There is a lot for the kids to do - if the parents are willing to put the time in when they are younger with sports and things like cadets...

All you need do is take a drive through downtown on a Friday night and see the groups of teens on the streets. A closer look , and you will see many are impaired. A look around town at the graffitti is also an indication. Places like the skateboard park, market square etc. are magnets for them. Thanks to a "gutless" Youth Justice System, they can get into trouble and not have to worry about the consequeces.

Bring back the Juvenile Delinquents Act and start charging these underage criminals and start charging the parents if they are still too young to be charged. Parents are not being held responsible for their children's actions and they are the first to step up and defend their children when they get into trouble. Disciplining our children to become more responsible adults is a way to show love and show them that we do care.

We have an even more serious problem!! Derilict Parents!! Why are young kids wandering the streets at all hours of the night? It isnt as bad since it got cooler, but during the summer I see 12 and 14 year olds out at 4 AM. No wonder we have a youth crime problem. Security cameras in the downtown and a curfew aren't really all that bad.

A problem, Yes, Serious, No, not yet. Unfortunately it is the old story of the few putting the label on the majority. It's time for the justice system to take care of the few. The laws are in place, it is time to enforce them, and get rid of the soft hearted judges who refuse to properly punish the offenders. A slap on the wrist just teaches them how to use the other hand.

I think many people respond to this based upon what they have heard or read in the paper over the years. Sit down with a local police officer or social worker for an hour and ask them; You'll find that very few of the issues make it to print. I agree with holding parents accountable, but who do you hold accountable when the parents are 120 miles away and the kid is in "state care" within Kenora. Go hug a social worker - you have no idea of the mess behind the local social equation here.

Too many low enders in Kenora.

For youth that commit crimes that are under age and can't be charged, the parents should be charged. That way they'd be more responsible for their children.
