Somehow I think a bunch of people running around the streets of kenora shooting at deer in peoples yards is not a great idea.

The deer problem should be brought under control. Giving food to the disadvantage is a good idea... but they will always be at a disadvantage until they are shown and taught how to look after themselves.

Hunting on Coker Road has become a hot topic due to safety concerns with area residents. How is hunting in town going to alleiviate any safety issues? I am interested to hear who would do the harvesting and how it would be conducted. Those who are against donating "deer" meat may want to dig in their freezers and hand out beef, poultry and pork.

I dont think that deer should be hunted in the city limits, it is restricted to outside of the city for a reason. People would have to dress in orange to go for a walk on any trails. And even people who don't hunt would have to go buy orange just so that they dont get shot. Deer wouldn't charge you if they see you as a food source if you don't feed them just leave them alone and they will leave you alone

I think that harvesting the deer population in general would result in fewer deer within city limits. In Europe venison is on every menu. Why not here?

Randy has been driving through Kenora with his eyes closed! I have seen several deer hit in front of my house.

There are hundreds of people in the area who for whatever reason do not have enough food to eat. If there was a way to help them out using the deer, why not?

We eat deer meat year round but I enjoy having the lovely uniqueness of having deer right in our own backyard. Sure, they are a nuisance when they eat our plants: we deal with it by placing screening wire or planting marigolds. Seeing the deer in such communion with humans makes me think of heaven on earth.
Deer are NOT a threat and I would protest their routine physical removal, nor should firearms be used in or near town. Also, it is the DRIVERS responsbility to be aware of deer while driving.
I applaud anyone however, who is able to share their game meat with the disadvantaged.

I don't think that the deer should be harvested in town. We brought this problem on ourselves, by feeding them. That is not how nature intended it to be. First the MNR wants us to adopt a deer to save them, now there's talk of killing them. Who is going to pay for the tags to harvest these deer for the needy. The MNR should just waive the price of the tags until the problem is under control.

The expense of an abattoir would negate any savings. and besides if deer actually tasted good (instead of just being fun to shoot and a good excuse to go out into the woods with the boys, toys, booze and guns) you would be able to buy it at Safeway.
