The mill workers and their union cut their own throats and hurt the town. If the union hadn't been so greedy the mill would still be in operation. Abitibi offered them a deal and they turned it down. Paper mills are being closed across the country and the union fools thought they held the hammer and could dictate to the company. Now the town pays because of union stupidity.

Hi i think if the people of Kenora would have stood behind the mill workers as they are for the return of the Kenora police... the taxes alone from the mill.. just think how that money could help us today The taxes could have been the push we needed to keep our police force. Thanks.....

I cherish the right to disagree with decisions and actions of our elected representatives. Obviously, as shown in your 'Online Poll' so do many others in Kenora. No doubt, I'll continue to grumble or applaud changes within our community. However, I strongly agree with earlier comments by 'Progressive Redneck' (Feb. 16th) and 'David' (Feb. 14th) that council is professionally dealing with difficult decisions by utilizing their collective differences. {Exactly what I voted for!} In my opinion, sometimes they get it wrong but usually reflect the true majority of tax paying ciatizens. Withdrawing our input at this stage is one of those wrong decisions – in my opinion!

As far as I'm concerned Kenora has only gotten the dirty end of the stick out of membership in those organizations. Much better to go it alone, so I say keep the course mayor and council.

This is the most arrogant council (and mayor) I can remember. I predict Dave Canfield will be mayor after the next election.

I'm proud of a Mayor and Council who have chosen to follow their mandate and even when the going gets tough, they stick to it. They know what they are doing even when it may not be popular. They have my appreciation and applause.

Maybe they arent even wanted there! This council will go down in history as destructive, negative and self serving. I hope when the next election rolls around, we can elect a mayor and council who serve the voters.

I have to applaude the mayor and council of Kenora for their gestures of support towards First Nations in Treaty Three and Treaty Nine. No mayor and council previous to them has recognized or appreciated the business First Nations contribute to the economy of Kenora, even moreso now since the closing of the Abitibi Consolidated Mill than ever before. Perhaps, the Mayor, who has a legal background, also knows what's coming down in the future with regards to First Nation lands and resource rights in the area. I think overall, they have really progressed very well on advancing their relationships with First Nations. Congratz Mr. Compton and Team. :)

What are we in, high school? What happened to elected officials working together for the good of the community they serve. Taking your marbles and going home is hardly a solution. Kenora council is rapidly gaining a reputation as the school yard bully. Change doesn't happen in a vacuum. Negotiate, don't dictate.

This type of behavior is not surprising as this council has made it quite clear that it has its own agenda.Everyone knows how hard it is to lobby higher government bodies into doing anything that is beneficial to the people that it represents. The larger the group doing the lobbying the greater the results. This is merely another bad decision to add the growing list that this group has accumulated so far. I guess they figure they will be more succesful going it alone. Good luck with that.
