If Tony Hawk and other famous "Pros" wear helmets....what makes these kids think they are "better than the pros!" Get your helmets on!

It's sad to say but, no one will do anything to nake helmets mandatory until the first serious accident happens, and we all know it will happen.

I have to agree with Dave below - it's a matter of liability, as I think that the users of the park are well aware of the potential risks.
I believe that all participants SHOULD wear protective gear, but the reality is that some / many / most will not. I'm not sure who would be liable in the event of injury (is the city liable if someone drowns at an unsupervised beach?), but provided that the city is protected, people can use the facility at their own risk as they see fit.

Helmets and other protective gear are just common sense. Unfortunately you cannot legislate common sense, try as you may.

Sounds like a good idea especially with the one side near the road that looks very unsafe, but who is going to enforce this rule? We all know the KPS does not have the manpower to do so.

I think it is very important to make helmets mandatory!! I realize that it is considered " cool" amongst the other skateboarders not to wear a helmet, however it is extremely unsafe and foolish!! I wonder if it is considered "cool" to have a brain injury of some kind, or ultimately to die?!
I have to say when I drive by the skateboard park my first thought is I sure hope my son or daughter does not take this sport up because to me it looks very unsafe and I would be worried sick about them all the time.

OF course they should. Because if they don't the first person to fall and bash their head will be suing the town.

It all comes down to common sense and liability. Common sense won't prevail. Liability however will.
If one of these individuals scrambles their brain while at the park, the city will be liable.
All the signage and rules that are in place only recognize that there is a problem, it does not clear the city of liability. A rule compelling helmets and a person on site to enforce the rule will only make it work.
