Yes. I think it is a very effective way to arrest criminals who refuse to cooperate in an appropriate way. But once again, the use of this device, is up to the descretion of the officer in charge. We trust his training and policing skills to make his choice to use this weapon are of a legitimate factor.

I find in interesting how people complain about the use of taser guns when you could be getting shot with an actual bullet as opposed to a shock of electricity that has a like 15 percent fatality rate.

I always find it amusing that when someone is tased, it is the police officer's fault! It doesn't take any intelligence to be a criminal, but it does to be a police officer.
If you arent breaking the law, you don't have to worry.

Too many times our police officer's own lives are in danger and they have a right to protect themselves. Although deaths from a taser happen, they are far less life threatning then a gun. When the deaths do occur, the press never reports what drugs or other substances the suspect may have been on which probably contributed to their death, nor does the press adequately report what the suspect was attempting to do to the officers who are on the street every day, risking their lives to protect us, the common citizen.

Living in Winnipeg, I hear nothing but negative comments about taser use. There is nothing bad to say about a taser. Sure the taser has been the cause of a few deaths... but how many deaths have been caused by the gun of a police officer? If an officer is forced to draw their sidearm rather than a taser the criminal is more likely to wind up dead.

A taser may seriously harm a person or even kill them 1% of the time. A bullet will seriously harm or kill a person 99.9% of the time. Sounds like a better option to me. Except for police training I've yet to hear where the taser was used on someone who hasn't deserved it, so if you insist on putting an officer in that position, roll the dice and suck it up. Beats a hole in your body every time I would think.

Based on this summer's news stories, tasers seem to kill as good as guns. With a gun, the officer could choose to just wound the perpetrator. In any case, threatening a law enforcement person with a weapon has undesirable consequences.

Maybe the police could just shoot the bad guy in the leg or arm and then arrest them peacefully.

Yes I would say that a taser is most definately a deterent to those who choose to resist arrest. Such similar devices should also be designed as a deterrent for slow roundabout construction workers. Perhaps a taser will help them to work a little faster and get the job done already.

The only reason tasers have a bad name is because of the press. Everytime someone gets tasered, the press runs out to ask the mom why they tasered little Johnny. And then she cries as says it is excessive force and it is headline news. What a load of bull. Instead, why can't the press run out and give the cop a medal!! Then interview the mom and ask her how she managed to raised a kid that can't understand the phrase...."stop or I'll shoot!"
We need to stop blaming the cops and instead blame the dysfunctional people that get themselves into situations where they need to be tasered! Remember, the cops didn't bring them there...they did it on their own
