Not in My Backyard? Interesting that the people here offer zero solutions, not realizing that the alternative to housing and addictions treatment is more homelessness and addiction.
who;s in charge  ( May 17, 2019)
We are beginning to wonder who is running this town; is it council or the Kenora District Services Board? I know let's put one of these buildings in a councillor's or the mayor"s backyard lets see how far that goes. Southpark, Sunrise Place, West Bay, Seventh Street South, I am sure these locations are familiar to council. Oh yeah, don't forget the old drive-in property.

Definitely not! We don't need any more people with problems. Just look at Park and Matheson St.,we have more than enough. Crime rates are up and will only increase with summer coming.
Why ?  ( May 17, 2019)
Why is it that the people who want these establishments, are also the ones who do most of the name calling? Usually never have these projects built in their neighbourhood.

There are enough issues in Kenora, build the new units by the people who want the units built and see what they think of them in their back yard.

They have already made that decision by adding new housing units. Lock your doors, board up your store fronts, and sell your house while it is still worth something … maybe! It's too bad that the people who pay taxes do not get any benefits, Jaffray Melick is still waiting for a usable road since 2001!

I don't think the City is qualified to make any major decisions about anything. We are NOT open for business - too many break ins - and we are NOT a boating destination - no parking after launching. I believe that the 70 per cent of residents that indicated we need affordable housing, were referring to young families being able to purchase a home, university students that have huge loans can afford somewhere to live, seniors and other people who would pay into the tax base and help fund the services we all use, by working and living here. The proposed housing units being built at present will not help my grandson stay, live and work in Kenora. They are for unemployed, homeless, mental health, addiction and transitional housing. I would love him to stay here but he cannot afford to live in a studio apartment for $1,200.00 a month, he doesn't get any free housing from Kenora District Services Board.

Look at the streets in Kenora now we have a big enough problem with what we have already, starting to look like problem streets in Toronto & Vancouver.
Name withheld   ( May 15, 2019)
And when they fail at an attempt to go clean, what happens? Right back onto the streets of Kenora and more homeless street people. The cycle continues. Foresight, apparently there must be something in the water that diminishes it in the local population. What a sorry excuse of a town this has turned into. Infrastructure crumbling, no workforce, residents carrying the brunt of the tax burden, and all the council is concerned about is turning this dump into a welfare case. Time to move.

Mayor and council should have to have these type of units in their own backyards first, then maybe they would better understand why other tax payers do not want them in there neighbourhoods.
