Of course they should raise the wage. These people taking home next to nothing don't have the luxury of a COLA CLAUSE.(Cost Of Living)SO if gas and food go up in price twice in a year, plus utilities, how are these min. wage earners supposed to survive?? May as well let Social Services subsidize their meager income!

I find it interesting that some of the very pertinent responses that were posted the other day, have been removed. So much for freedom of speech!

Ontario is an export economy from manufacturing to value addex goods. Our provincial economy has strengthened mainly from a weaker Cdn dollar. Even with our high utility costs and labour regulations businesses have been able to use the low Cdn dollar as a cushion. But with the huge minimum wage increase, it's setting the province up for a huge mass exodus of businesses if our dollar happens to strengthen again to the US dollar. If we get a 90 cent dollar or bsck close to par, Ontario's minimum wage won't matter anymore as no one will be working!

It's the beginning of a slippery slope. The person earning $20/hour will now want to be earning $25/hour to adjust to the 22 per cent minimum wage increase. This will only drive cost of living up, and causing business owners to employ fewer people with increased job duties. I'm not against a minimum wage increase but in moderation to reflect the annual cost of living increases. Expect to see higher unemployment and hours being cut. Businesses can't absorb this rate of increase!

With minimum wage going up how about the people with existing jobs getting a raise as well. It seems upper management make a lot and the little people that do all the work make peanuts! With prices going up its good to see.

It's both good and bad. People who earn minimum wage will make more but prices on everything will go up accordingly. So the people receiving the increase will be no further ahead. People who don't receive the increase will find the cost of living higher.

I worked for a local big box retailer when the last minimum wage increase was brought in. It did not help create work! Instead positions and hours of work were chopped to make up for the additional cost.
This is just a pre-election bone, being tossed out to buy a few votes.

With the new $15.00 per hour minimum wage. A couple working full time will have a little over $1,000 after tax income per week. Will this will get you a $300,000 house one brand new leased vehicle, pay your municipal taxes, utilities, home and auto insurance and still leave $350.00 for groceries, gasoline and discretionary items per week? No you cannot support a family with a couple earning minimum wage. It does however provide a solid foundation for the first step up the ladder to a career, higher paying job and better future.

i do agree in one way but it all leads to prices of everything getting raised higher there should be more of fixed prices then raises would not be needed. Take this town most things are higher than most places and will go up again they will say it is because of the minimum wage.

Go to the grocery store. In one month the prices have gone up. Some people don’t make ends meet now.
