A big no. We should be able to pick who we want. I choose who I want, cheaper or not there are a lot I don't like and will not get them no matter what.

We should support local contractors and keep them working here. People complain they can't get an electrician, plumber or contractor, well they are probably working in Ear Falls and Red Lake because they are not given the opportunity to do jobs that are worthwhile in Kenora.

I think it's terrible that a local bid would be lost over $11,000,that is such a small percentage of the 7.3 million dollar project that is being done at Beaver Brae for the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board. The bidding contractor isn't the only local company that got snubbed, all the sub-contractor jobs went out of province as well. So why should anyone shop locally, we can get better deals in Winnipeg. Buy your gas at Falcon Lake and put all the local gas stations out of business. Kenora is not open for business. Pretty sad situation.

After all, they do live here, pay taxes, hire locals and are here when warranty work is needed. Out-of-towners have to pay room and board for the trades they bring in.
Local companies that fit the rules for bonding etc. should be able to bid competitively with out of town companies.
The ideal way to determine a bid is to take the top three. Toss out the highest and lowest and take the middle one.
