Having our mayor walk out of a T-bay Tel presentation is somewhat...well...childish. I'm not sure what he was trying to accomplish by his actions. The city had no problem going into competition with private internet providers taking money out of their pockets. Now that the feel someone elses hands reaching into theirs, they don't like it. T-bay Tel...sign me up.

Appears our city is not liking the competition. But it was not that long ago the city went into direct competition with Norcom Cable with regards to internet service. This was ok to go head to head with a tax payer and steam roll over them. Now that their faced with the same situation albeit reversed, their not liking it. Whats good for the goose....I'm happy...looks good on them.

No. KMTS has provided excellent service and services for this city and with that has come a healthy profit that the city uses to finance other things. Go ahead, stop supporting our local telephone system. It will have to sell out and then you will be stuck with someone like Tbay Tel or worse, Bell. Ask anyone with Bell and they'll tell you it is no picnic. Be careful what you wish for people.

Exactly what's wrong with a little competition probably better pricing? Cell phones are a rip off and the coverage is terrible in this area. KMTS has boasted about all the money they make every year but have not increased signal strength still fades out in rocks cuts etc. within the Kenora area. l for one would like cheaper monthly cell phone rates and stronger coverage so maybe this is a good thing.

Competition is good for business and the consumer. Ever wonder why KMTS has been making such huge profits each year? Check your phone bill, we are paying excessively high prices for services that are half the price in bigger markets. Just because it's a local utility doesn't mean I am willing to subsidize its over paid management.

We have heard for a year now about upcoming competition. If TBay Tel can provide better service, better products at a competitive price then so be it.
What is stopping KMTS from becoming agressive and expanding its market. Its a dog eat dog competitive world out there.
I think KMTS has had their monopoly in town long enough. Now it time to get in the game or cease to exist.

What's wrong with a little competition? Every other business is already invading Kenora so what's the difference?

No, I wish we had competition for other services such as Hydro and Health Care as well. We have some very "fat cats" in our local unionized systems and competition is good for the consumer, but not for the cats...
