The city should exercise some fiscal restraint with the reduction/loss of the paper mill's yearly tax contribution. They should postpone the unrequired re-construction of the harbourfront which is in my opinion and many others a complete waste of the taxpaers's money. The city though should be actively recruiting new heavy/light industry opportunites and fortune 500 companies through the economic development person who works for the city. She should be able to canvass companies and be given a large travel budget to accomplish these aggressive goals. In order to sell our area to the potential investors. Maybe, the city could give them an incentive through tax-breaks and other benefits. Companies are not just going to come to Kenora on their own they will have to be sold on the idea! Therefore, the city should concentrate on attracting business first then develop the core area second.
