Why do we have so many deer? Because a few years back we had a harsh winter and Anglers and Hunters of Ontario were worried that it would create a tough hunting season the following year, so they came up with the brilliant Feed a Deer campaign and hundreds jumped on board. Now we are paying for that foolishness. If you mess with natural progression you will pay the consequences. So no to a cull, let nature take its course and until then learn to live with the deer in your yard, and stop putting out feed and salt licks.

You take the forest away from the animals, what do you get in return? The answer: wild animals coming into areas that we live in. People take things for granted, for every action there is a reaction. People need to RESPECT the lands we live on especially to show respect for nature as it was intended to be.
more deer, less cars  ( October 30, 2007)
Why do people with cars think they are entitled to live outside the laws of nature? If they have an accident in a snowstorm, it's always the government's fault. If there are deer on the roads, the government better do something about that too, so drivers don't have to put down their cellular phones and doughnuts to actually concentrate on driving. The deer aren't the ones making the roads hazardous.

There should be a cull on people who come up with ideas like this one, traffic "Round a bouts, concert halls and tolls for bridges!
Not now, not ever.  ( October 30, 2007)
There is no "deer" problem. There is a "human" problem. Drive slower, most of you should be anyway. When I meet a deer, I am happy, I show it respect. Never met a deer that deliberately hurt a human. I wish I could say the same about humans. They hurt each other, and kill the deer often for no reason at all.
Not bothered by the deer  ( October 29, 2007)
The deer don't bother me. However, the downtown "residents" and LCBO citizens do. How can Kenora be more concerned about deer then the dangerous homeless and the eyesore of the drunks?

Nature will soon take care of the problem. That's the way it has always been. We blame the deer for being here. We have driven them from their natural habitat and provided a banquet in our yards. I think the deer on Valley Drive are the only thing controlling the speeding cars. But hit one, and its the deer's fault.

I agree with Chuck. Do we have to wait until something drastic or serious happens before we do anything about it. I'm sure our nurseries are not happy about the situation either as people are buying less and less flowers and plants. So now it's starting to effect our businesses.

No one is talking about wiping out deer off the planet. Just about getting them under control in the city. The fact is they are everywhere and the time has come to get the situation under control. Mother nature has a cruel side: You think standing in water until you're frozen and then return to land only to be eaten alive, or starving to death in the middle of winter are nice ways to go?

Maybe if done properly, and the meat used and not wasted.
