Our streets are not as safe as they were a year ago. It is not the street people who make the streets unsafe, in my opinion, it is the boy and girl gangs who roam the streets, bullying other people, beating up on other kids and spraying gang slogans on public property. We don't walk the dog anymore after dark because of the fear of teen gangs.

No, I deffinitely do NOT feel the streets are safer than a year ago. This town is getting to be a really scary place to be with drug dealers on every street corner. You can walk downtown on any given day at any given time and see a drug deal take place. Where are the police, do they even care that our young generation is being lost by this. It's surely not a place you can feel safe with your kids walking down the street.

No,and here's why; Higher powers came up with a slogan: 'Make Kenora Home' and, as sure as rain, Kenora has a noticeably larger population of homeless street persons. Along with them, they carry a myriad of individual problems. Some citizens may feel threatened when confronted by any one of these new "residents" day or night. The solution would be if city hall got off their collective pompous butts and allocated funds to provide housing for the homeless, instead of wasting said funds on a round-about at the subway that NOBODY in Kenora wants! At least then, as a tax payer, I could sleep at night, knowing that out there, some homeless person CAN sleep at night.

I just read somewhere that Kenora has the highest rate of youth crime in Ontario. This week, the gravestones in the cemetary were damaged on several different nights. Last night, two vehicles were broken into less than 200m from my home. A year ago, my kids played out front and I was content to check on them randomly. Now, I see too many "people of interest" walking by at all hours and my kids are on restricted watch accordingly. Too many 12-18 year-old kids wandering late at night with no one wondering where they are or why they are not home yet? I wonder if things will improve or get worse? I appreciate the outstanding efforts made by the police and the social workers who do their best, but who can only have a small impact overall in the big picture. Where are the parents?
