I agree that there will need to be strong enforcement.
Why not just make it illegal to smoke in cars all together? That way the child never has to be exposed to it
Why smoke ?  ( December 30, 2007)
Any body that smokes should have his/her head examined nevermind subjecting our children to this act of stupidness.

I'm in favour of it. Just wondering if it will be applied to all Canadians equally (and how is that going to happen?). Some parts of society smoke like fiends, have very poor health and believe it is there Right to do so. Problem with smokers is that health care dollars go to treat them, taking away money that could go to other services or helping to create a productive working person.

I deffinately think smoking should be banned in cars with children present. It makes me very upset to think people actually smoke in a vehicle with kids. Somebody needs to speak up for these kids who are being violated. When I pick up my children from school I see a woman smoking her face off while picking up her grandkids and other kids and it makes me sick to think they have to be in that vehicle barely breathing. Our kids should not have to suffer because of foolish people with no consideration for those around them.

Obviously we shouldn't need a law since only a self-centred a-hole would smoke in a car with a child in it but....

What part of "common sense" dont people get. It is bad enough smoking with kids present, but even if the cigarette is out and there are kids in the car later, the chemicals and odor are still in the air unit.
We dont need it legislated, who will enforce it? If it is ever made a law and there are possible charges to be laid, I suggest they be Child Abuse or Endangering the well being of a minor.

Children generally have no voice for themselves. It is unfair to subject them to this abuse. I've been saying for years that we need to extend this to homes as well.

As a mother who smokes I'm all in favour of this. But if they are going to actually implement it, they had better have a really good game plan on HOW they are going to do it. Or it will turn into a big joke and waste of resources.
