OMG, $22 million, fix the roads, we've had a pothole at the end of our driveway for six years, please use tax dollars for ALL residents. I go to my niece's hockey games two times a week and there are 20 people there. There was a rink at Rat Portage and JeffreyMelick, not used, now we have a sports complex and a bingo hall. So please don't waste more money or government funding to satisfy a small sector of people, use that money for everyone.

I agree, what I don't understand is why Dryden & Fort Frances were able to twin their rinks with a much smaller tax base. Where are our tax dollars going

We can't afford it. The argument about more local tournaments is pretty lame. There's almost too many now. If you have more here, you are taking away from other venues. Most hockey parents are tapped out, with equipment and travel costs, so coming to Kenora instead of playing in their rink gets costly.
The new ice surface would sit for 6 months a year, still requiring maintenance. Even when the rink is full during a tournament there is no profit made. It still costs money to staff and operate.
When the rec center starts showing a profit, or a generous benefactor is found, we cannot afford it.
Nice to see someone finally step forward with the black and white truth.
