I feel that Kenora should be more attuned to the situation we have here for housing and colloborate with the First Nations and work together to fix this problem and stop fighting each other or pointing the finger. I have alot fo friends who stayed at Adams Block and they say that they are not heard because no one will take the time to go and talk to them about what they think or what solutions they may have. I feeel that Kenora should hire someone to go and talk to these people and compile all their concerns and have it read at the Coucil meetings. It is important to deal with this issue firts hand as it will not go away at all. In order to have harmony one must make some sacrifice to gain happiness for others. Not everything has to deal with money as these people are at a disadvantage in that department. Work Together as a COMMUNITY and we can live like one.
Low rental Tenet  ( July 4, 2006)
What ever happened to Habitat for Humanity? Are we that much of a "hick" town that we don't get the same treatment as the other cities? I agree people should be responsible for their own house wiether it be a low rental or an owned house. There is no difference.

There may already be a surplus of housing units in Kenora since the paper mill closure. An alternative to building new Low Income Housing could be acquisition of some of the surplus homes and stimulate the economy by upgrading them prior to rental.

If the government starts subsidising my house payments ok. Otherwise everybody should pay their own way and not rely on the government to do it for them.

How about creating more jobs and making people take available employment instead of making it easier to live on welfare.

Just because people don't make a lot of money doesn't mean they don't deserve to have a decent place to live.
Former Neighbour to low-income housing  ( July 1, 2006)
Low income housing is a waste of money. The people living in them have no respect for the building and neglect or outright trash them. Even after only 6 months of living in one, thousands have to be spent to fix them up before they are rented again. The government would be better off setting up a large scale Habitat for Humanity, where the low income people actually buy the houses and have a sense of ownership. Low income houses are like a hotel room to a bunch of partying teenagers - not mine, someone else will clean it and fix it.

Let's build some low cost housing on Rat Portage or better yet in Dryden. This is a chance for Kenora to clean up its image as the black eye of Northwestern Ontario.

I don't think the government, either federal, provincial or municipal should be in the housing business. I would encourage a private developer to build affordable housing for low income families.
