How does the electricity merger benefit JM customers?

The rationale behind a merger is generally 'efficiency of scale' in other words non-duplication and possibly a reduction of administration, service workers and equipment. Having said that, internal costs may go down but seldom, if ever, will the consumers realize a reduction of costs.

The city has lost the local phone, hydro, and now a gas merge. So will the next move be out sourcing all our other services, like water breaks, street maintenance, cemetery care and so on? Will the city save money by all the Kenora hydro workers losing their jobs? There were several people that lost jobs or took a buy out when the company I worked for merged.

Kenora has a record of questionable sales or amalgamations. Decades ago they sold the East Branch power house, amalgamation of the three municipalities, selling the phone company, replacing our police department and now this Hydro merger.
Nothing has ever led to lower prices or taxes for citizens. Just higher costs and poor service.

Perhaps some of those who voted yes on this poll could enlighten us as to the benefits of this merger to Kenora customers. We would all like to know.

My gas bill says the fee for gas used is $8.46. With all the extra costs for storage, transportation and lots of other fees, I pay a monthly bill of $94.00. So how can they justify an increase? But we don't have any other choice.

I hope this doesn't turn out to be another sell out by the city, we ended with such good savings when we sold the telephone system and switched to the OPP – a brilliant move by a past council.

I think this will just make prices go up.
John  ( January 24, 2019)
Definitely not. Gas companies are already asking to raise prices. Mergers are suppose make cash flow etc. better but they all seem to need to raise costs. Oh yeah we live in Northern Ontario no breaks here.

As locked-in customers of this amalgamation I believe we are entitled to an explanation of the rationale behind the merger. What are the benefits if any to the customer which is every one of us.
