With all the money spent over the last few years on this gaebage issue, the city would have been far wiser to invest in a bio-mass boiler and burn the garbage and control the emissions with the proper scrubbers. The steam generated could propel a generator for electricity and have this paid for by adding the kw's to the grid. We would be showing a profit... but what do i know?

Seems most people on here would be happy to continue hauling the garbage to Manitoba in light of the fact that it could possibly contaminate the ground water which rural Manitobans drink. Who cares if it makes them sick as long as I'm all right.

Once more council has delivered the outcome while the poll is young. We owe it to those who championed this cause, the time to plead their case. Even if one is pro-dump, they ought to be able to at minimum, offer that level of respect. (However, there seems to be an amoral pattern that what this public thinks means nothing anyway). Why is it that a committee was formed on the Keewatin dog issue, and a new council member was voted in secretly, but the landfill was an open, unanimous vote to move forward quickly? Is it possible our servants are confusing power with greatness? Councils are supposed to represent their people, not suppress them. Perhaps instead of offering them keys to the city someone should have changed the lock?

The cost won't be cheaper because the city must buy the trailers to haul garbage and a truck to move them plus a full time operator for Jones. Get rid of transfer station and send trucks right to Jones instead of handling garbage twice.

The Silver Lake landfill was a disaster from the start. Residents were against the idea then, yet this idea went ahead. Once again, residents are against it, and yes, you guessed it.....your say does not matter unfortunately.

HC has my vote. Lets see what the folks of Kenora think about cutting down the trees around our BIG FISH so we all can see it? I remember when there was no trees...

Concerned? Of course, concerned..

If the MOE licensed the facility why doesn't everybody quit whining and move on to the next rant?

I'd rather they allow dumping there to prevent things, like people throwing garbage from the back of their pickup truck, from happening. See story at http://kenoradailyminerandnews.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=1764104
