I seem to recall another group lobbying the provincial government to have the casino built outside city limits. I have yet to hear objections regarding this group's plans.

We were in Warroad, MN, on the wk end and spent a little time at the casino there. First thing l did was walk around the parking lot and here's some numbers l see out of about 100 vehicles l counted 67 Ontario cars 23 Manitoba cars five North Dakota cars and a whole seven Minnesota cars. What this means a casino is a no brainer can you imagine the extra shoppers in this town to help our retail businesses it's time we got something new in this town lately we only see stores torn down or shut down.

I don't understand the concern regarding the casino. Every garage, Ma & Pa store in this city sell gambling tickets, the mall used to have a booth selling raffle tickets yet no concerns were raised. Wasn't the arena at Devil's Gap transformed into a casino later? Isn't it a bingo hall now? Seems to me that a casino is a problem only if built in Kenora.

The casino will easily outweigh the risks. It will attract people that usually go to Winnipeg/South Beach, Minnesota,Thunder Bay. The truth will hurt. It will create jobs. Hotels, gas stations and restaurants will get much needed boost. A godsend.

We need something to happen here. Kenora is going downhill; no revenue, with no jobs people exiting. Wake up it is worth the chance.

I can see good and bad. It will possibly bring in money to some in Kenora, but I can also see crime rising as people feed their addiction.

Think how the low income families would suffer even more when their dollars are spent thinking to win enough to pay the monthly bills and it does not happen. And the others who would time after time keep hoping that this would finally be the big win. Who other than the casino owners would benefit from that?

The big problem everyone hates is the addiction. I have to say it is already here. They go to Winnipeg, Falcon Lake, Thunder Bay, the U.S. I can go on. What better place to spend our money but here, adding some jobs etc. Having the tourists and the seasonal people spend here. We have an alcohol and drug problem in Kenora no one wants to admit to which is becoming a major problem.

I'm no fool. The old adage goes Once bitten, Twice shy. And what's going to change this time? Just different faces syphoning off funds is all. Scrap a casino idea in Kenora. Go to Winnipeg if you have to gamble that bad.

Actually, who asked for this casino anyway? I feel that the casino and the unwanted twinning of the ice at the rec center should be added to the ballot for the next municipal election. Give the citizens a chance to choose and if voted down, put these issues to sleep.
