Anything that becomes common loses meaning.

I agree the flag should be lowered on Nov. 11 only. It should not be lowered for any politician other than the sitting PM.

if you don't lower the flag for these brave souls, then don't lower it for some politician that sits back and collects a nice fat cheque for doing nothing

A way to look at it. The soldier who dies today, joins all of the brave soldiers who died for their country and who are honoured on that special Remembrance Day when the flag is lowered to half mast. What better honour!

I think all our countries are in mourning. I think it should stay at half mast ALL THE TIME until the war has ended.

Definately NOT. I am a veteran and believe that the flag on parliament hill should only be lowered for Remembrance Day, the death of our Monarch and serving members of parliament. By lowering the flag each time a Canadian Forces Person is killed dilutes the meaning of the significance of lowering the colour to half-mast. (not half-staff which is a US term) Lowering the flag to half mast signifies that the country is in mourning. In the event of the death of an armed forces member, the flags should be lowered to half mast in the member's hometown and at his or her's regimental base. Nuf Said!

Yes, most definitly. It is a way of honoring those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. it is also a way of reminding Canadians that we are at war.
Better yet the flag should be lowered at all government locations so that Canadians across Canada remember those heroes.
We should also adopt way of teaching Canadians that there are Flag Protocols. It is embarassing there was flags are flown at some local locations. There is also nothing more embarassing or dishonourable than flying our flag in a state of disrepair.
