I beleive fully in the "underground" economy. I help a friend, he helps me. By the time you jump through all the government hoops and get a permit etc. it won't be worth the while. Let alone a reassessment, higher taxes and fewer dollars in your pocket.

If everyone takes their money out of circulation, you'll be needing to access your RRSPs and pension sooner than you think. And if that's the case, your pension fund and RRSP losses will continue, which would mean that this may not be a good time to buy.

My my my, what total gov't hog wash. I say don't fall for that BS. All they will eventually do is reassess your home & raise your property taxes due to your home improvements. It's an old scam.

First off, I don't have the money. Second, I can already get a job done here tax free (illegally), so where's the savings?

No, I won't be. I'm going to try and take advantage of the fact that now is a good time to buy RRSP's, which will help (hopefully) bolster the amount I've lost in pension plan funds. I will also put money into a TFSA. I won't be able to afford any home renos for quite some time. Also, the amount is a pittance, there are other ways I can get a better rate of return on my hard earned money.

I think the home reno tax credit is a good thing to stimulate the economy. It ensures that the money is spent in Canada on an appreciating asset... the family home. I just wish it was bigger.
