Oh my God, what a social nightmare this would bring! Not this area, we have enough "issues" and a casino would only bring far more harm (not to mention gangs and drugs)to the residents of Kenora and remote communities that would visit this area and not be able to go home for spending the money needed for their kids and families.

Having a full fledge casino would be tragic. We need something positive. People would gamble more, drink more...we do not need MORE of that here. Before people make plans on whats best for the town, they should weigh the pros and cons of the long term effect. If this does happen, the OPP, hospital, councillors, Swift cash, Insta loans and Cash Stores will be busy in all the wrong ways.....THINK!!!

Yep, right beside the performing arts centre on the harbourfront! Let's be real. We simply don't have the money to be building and maintaing luxuries. Prime example is the rec centre. Too much to run so now increase fees, decrease services. The idea of a casino would be great for a year or 2 until the novelty wears off and is no longer thriving. Perhaps we should look at Thunder Bay's casino for insight.

A casino in Kenora? Flat out NO! First, ask the Health Unit what the stats are on addictions in Kenora this year. Next, ask for the same from the police department du jour, as well as the LOWDH. I think you'll find that the stats are absolutely staggering for a community of our size. Do we honestly need one more addiction in our town? We can't/won't clean up the mess we're already in, so why would we want to compound our misery by breaking up a lot of good homes and marriages all for the sake of gambling? You want to gamble,- go to Winnipeg! Betcha 20 bucks you hit a deer on the way home!

Good idea! Then perhaps the existing bingo hall could be used as a hockey rink again. Another rink is badly needed in Kenora.

Probably the most brilliant idea anyone has come up with yet. We want to pass Kenora off as a tourist destination. Most people in the civilized world have had casinos for years. Anywhere there is a casino, there are crowds.
Of course, there are people who will start bemoaning the problems of gambling addiction. These people will gamble anyway, and they are a minority.
Add in the jobs they create its a winner.
When you look at the model used by 7 Clans in the US., they have the casino element, great entertainment, good accomodations and activities for all ages.
Now if we could only sell the idea to the Ludites that hand out the licences from the "Center of the World", garbage capital of Canada,--Toronto!!

Hey what a great idea. Let's build a casino, then build a zoo around it and we put eagles seagulls, loons and walleyes in it. Ohhhh never mind. Timmies anyone.
RH  ( July 25, 2009)
Actually a zoo would be nice too. Why shouldn't we have a real Casino. Everyone else has one. And if run properly instead of that half baked one in rat Portage it would be very successful. Lets do it.
Chuck  ( July 24, 2009)
Yes, yes, Yes. The spin off possibilities of jobs are endless. The new tourists could be flown in and flown out. Of course this will never happen, because those who control this town will never give up their control to those with deep pockets of money.
Richard  ( July 24, 2009)
No. We had a casino, now it's a bingo hall as there was no demand for a casino. There just isn't the right demographic to support a casino in Kenora. Any business analyst can attest to that. We need a casino like we need a zoo.
