SK full time is one thing but JK on the other hand is a different story. There is a significant difference between a 3-4 year old and a 4-5 year old in terms of cognitive and behavioral development. Should JK become full time, I hope the term "JK" can be used interchangeably with the term "Play Time". Play time combined with structure is the best form of stimulation for the wee ones. If this is the case, JK full time could be a wonderful thing for people who have difficulty paying for child care. For those who are fortunate enough to benefit from other sources of care in the week (eg. grandparents, etc.), I would hope a 5 day week for JK wouldn't be mandatory. I'd hate to see kids missing out on baking and playing and 1 one 1 stimulation with a family member or other caregiver.

Why not full time SK only and let those little 4 year olds spend that year at home. There are so many programs and resources for parents to take advantage of i.e. the library to enhance learning.

No way!! Whatever happened to letting kids be kids? Many people want full day Kindergarten just so they will not have to pay for daycare or babysitters. The evidence says that with full day, full week kindergarten, kids learn to read earlier. Obviously, the more time spent in school the quicker you will learn. My daughter just graduated from Senior Kindergarten last week, and she can read, and that is only going two days a week in JK and three days a week in SK. Due to numerous reasons, kids are growing up too fast. Let kids be kids. I do not want full day, full week for my other daughter next year in JK or the year after in SK.

Why not? I already have my 3 year old in full time day care, only difference is that when she goes to junior kindergarten this fall she won't be taking naps like she would in day care. If my child can learn to read and write earlier, kudos to her!!!!

Yes for normal kindergarten, but not for 'junior' kindergarten. Ask an educator about junior kindergarten and they'll tell you it's just daycare under a different label. Skip the 'JK' childcare program and start educating with SK full time.
