The right person to oversee publicly funded agencies in Kenora would be a good idea. One person that can link together all of the non-profit agencies in the city could be very helpful in strengthening partnerships. As well, assisting to secure funding for programs that the community needs would greatly benefit the agencies and services that struggle to find and secure funding.
Need more info....  ( May 11, 2009)
Need more information to make an actual debated answer to most comments on here. For one, the officer would oversee where the funding goes (input from council but not all hands in the pot)... And for the comment about this being a town, cities are lumped into a different funding group in the government, hence we are able to apply for more funding for different city projects, through the government.

Absolutely. This town needs to have more socials and parties and hiring someone to put them on would be so cool...me and my dudes are into it...

No! This is just another example of the city council wanting something to waste money on. They don't really care if we want it... they will do it anyways. They (some of the council ) think that they are "WAY" above everyone else! They need a reality check and they should start listening to the taxpayers that live here year round in the town of Kenora!!!! Yes I said TOWN!!!

This is a beautiful city/town. We don't need a watchdog to waste money. There are enough people to see what's going on.

How can anyone give an intelligent answer to this question using ONLY the information provided?

Would this social development officer be helping taxpayers? I think the feds or province has enough involvment here. Kenora's economy - policing and social services...

I think there are already too many fingers in the pie for a town our size. Notice I said TOWN - come on we have less then 17000 people We should stop calling ourselves a city and stop making up positions for council's relatives. Unemployment, responsible education and housing are the areas we need to be concerned with. And wasting money creating another unneeded position is not the way to put the proper focus on the problem.
