The operation reduction at the Discovery Centre is due to visitors making use of the city's website. The DC is another council mistake by the lake, another taxpayer sink hole. Businesses who feel the DC should operate longer hours, should have their taxes increased to cover the extra costs.

Promotion of Kenora could start at the Manitoba Ontario border where we used to have a travel info center but Dalton McGuinty felt it better to close and Katy Wynn has done nothing to help

If we are trying to attract more for the summer add boat ramps and docks, provide parking(pay) to create revenue and have businesses stay open so tourist can shop. Enough of free parking in Lakeside for tourists!

The term "Visitors"says it all . Maybe there will be a few more with the US dollar being so high. But, visitors, aka temporary/seasonal residents spend as little as possible and we get stuck with the bill for handling their waste and providing all other city services. Until the Commercial tax base in the city is paying more than the residential base, we are so screwed. Council doesn't get that! Instead of a dude in a boat coming here, get someone to come that actually contributes to our economy in a way that benefits all, not just lining the business owners pockets.

The only thing i see is high prices, gasoline is 20 cents a litre more than winnipeg groceries are unreal, prices are keeping people away no matter what they do if prices are high nobody is going to spend money wake up Kenora. I see loads of cars coming in with their own gas, groceries, lumber, fridges & stoves etc.

Yes, however one has to wonder sometimes when council, admin and even the tourism committees make foolish decisions like to reduce the operating hours of the discovery Center and fail to invest once again in Lake access.

Why would someone want to come here... every turn you make your being gouged and the public docks are a disgrace, lack of parking another problem poor signage for people coming in but then we have a lot of town employees to make it look good...

It's nice to bring visitors to our area but I would rather see them attracting some kind of manufacturing jobs. Our water bills and taxes are high enough making up for the tax short fall.
More revenue  ( May 12, 2017)
Will it mean more revenue for the city? From hotel taxes and parking ticket revenue? The city to the west of us (Winnipeg) seems to have no problem charging Hotel Tax and giving out Parking Tickets to visitors.

The summers are busy enough already so we should focus on winter tourism which has a lot of room to grow. Snow machining, concerts, ice fishing,Junior hockey team.
