Shop skills should be offered at the schools to give the student a taste of the real world. The country is crying for tradespeople, give them a taste of the trades. Who knows they may just like it! |

There are shop programs already at Beaver Brae. These wonderful programs turn out apprentices, who go on to be trades people. For those who dont pursue an apprenticeship, they at least have some knowledge in areas of minor home or auto repairs.

Absolutely. Why is there always a push for the kids to go to university and pursue some type of white collar profession? Not once when I was in school was there ever guidance to pursuing a trade. Trades appear to be in demand across the country and can afford a very comfortable living. Shop class may help identify those kids who work better with their hands and are likely better suited to a profession in the trades then they are sitting behind a desk. The schools must provide more information and guidance on the trades. |

Definitely! With the world crying for trades people, what a way to get students interested in a trade, or at least let them discover their talents.
If you look at the grads over the years who ended up pursuing a trade in construction, electrical etc., these programs are invaluable. |

With the acute shortage of trades people in Canada it only makes sense to re introduce Shop to high school. Shop classes may introduce a student to a trade which they may want to persue at college... |
