The question is worded in a manner that leads the reader to believe that the City of Kenora is considering having life guards at all of their public beaches. The reality is that this matter has not come before Council and is not part of the 2017 budget deliberations.

Too many children are at the public beaches by themselves. Booze and drugs have been noticed also. The pool is more safe. Parents have to step up to the plate and look after their own kids.

Definitely not. We have enough students as it is doing nothing, never mind lifeguards. Soon you will be charged for swimming in the lake, knowing this town council.

Parents need to be responsible for their children. Adults need to also know the hazards out there. It seems parents just like to drop kids off unattended and not only at the beach. Our children had us watching them all the time. You cannot take your eyes off them for a minute.

Since I like taking baths will the city provide me with a lifeguard because I might drown? Jeepers take responsibility for your actions and look after your kids' safety. Get a grip, the city provides a safe place for adults and kids to swim already called the Recreation Centre. By the way the city loses thousands of dollars running this facility and you are looking for another expense to the taxpayer.

All people should be responsible for looking after themselves, kids should not be unattended at a beach.

A big no! There is enough signage for people to be aware that there are no guards. Since you can't fix stupid, even with duct tape, there will be near misses and some parents made to realize that they are responsible. I worked 2 seasons in Manitoba at a very popular site. I did more supervision of drunks and druggies, bad parents and millenials than you can imagine. I was sworn at, threatened and had objects thrown at me. All that and never had to respond to a real water emergency. Being in an indoor pool setting is calmer and more organized.

Perhaps parents should watch their smaller children a little to avoid most of the danger.

In my day our parents were responsible for us. Huge population of kids under 16 in the 60's and not one incident!!

I feel the liability would be too great for the city.
