It would make sense that the City charges for parking at this new site....too bad it will be the locals (once again) that feed this kitty not the tourists. You will still find all the out of towners parking for free for days on end in front of Kenora residents or along the harbourfront by Husky the Musky (you know the bike lane...what a joke). Tourists need to be charged for everything they use just like all other tourist destinations do....nothing is for free in these spots. If they really like Kenora so much they will pay to come here. They should have to put up with increased costs the same way costs are rammed down our throats. Residents are sick of paying for these groups of free loaders who really don`t add any value to our city whatsoever.

Don't care if it makes money or not. Now the town has no excuse not to get the frigging freeloaders off of the streets in Lakeside.

If it was such a good idea why didn,t the private company that owned the property do it? Because it will NOT make money period. When is the last time you were in Dryden or Fort Frances? They have NO parking meters and don't have a parking problem. This is just another case of tax payers money wasted again. But oh ya council can hire another one or two people to look after them at about one hundred thousand dollars a year when you take pension into the total picture. Has anyone heard the latest that council is thinking of a new SUR TAX to cover street and sidewalks? Pretty soon we'll have tolls to drive on our streets so council can waste more tax payers money on a $50 million second ice rink! Now does this not remind you of the provincal and federal government's spending?

If it keeps the free loaders off the streets then yes. As a resident, I am tired of the city nickle and diming us to death. It is obvious that we need the extra money for roads and bridges. It is also obvious that in the real world, this area doesn't exist. Sure at election time, the federal and provincial candidates make all kinds of promises like infrastructure funding and highway twinning. Well if our bridges are unsafe, close them to commercial traffic. THEN block the bypass. That type of action seems to get the attention of the other levels of government.

Parking fees is good but this would be an excellent area to hold the agricultural fair with all its rides and have other community events as well.

Having a parking lot and charging for parking is a great idea. For those summer residents they can park and pay there instead of free loading the parking in Lakeside. This would also provide parking for the local residents that are here year round as well. This is a start to generate income for the city and accommodate local residents as well as the tourists.

Of course they should charge seeing how we can't get any money for infrastructure. We need all the money we can get and it is time to put in the casino. We have to start monitoring the illegal parking all over the city by summer residents and visitors blocking our streets etc. and send them to the parking lot

That is a no brainor. The town spent money to buy it now they need to recoup their losses. You don't see any free parking lots in Manitoba and they are the ones needing parking spots

There should be a loitering fee... the City would be in a surplus situation.

I realize Kenora is strapped for money as they have not done much to bring in something to replace the paper mill for revenue. I believe it is wrong to make up the difference by little increases in user fees. There should not be a charge for parking when you come into town to spend money. It really irks me that they put parking meters at the hospital and there should be none in front of city hall where you go to pay taxes or utility bills.
